About TMS

At THURMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL, our mission is to provide a supportive environment where all students will succeed in learning the academic, physical and social skills needed to become productive, responsible members of society.

Serving 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in the Catoctin community since 1969, Thurmont was the first middle school in Frederick County. Located in the town of Thurmont, "Gateway to the Catoctin Mountains," our renovated building affords up-to-date program facilities. A recreation-size gymnasium provides community recreational opportunities, enhancing the vital role of our school in the community.

Our expectation for all students is that they will not only succeed in mastering the essential curriculum, but they will also have opportunities to discover, explore and develop their unique talents. An emphasis on the arts, service learning and enrichment opportunities enhances our strong academic program for all students. As a Governor's "Green School," we provide students multiple environmental education and service options.

Thurmont Middle School's vision, "A school that values excellence and prepares students to achieve their potential," continues to be our focus. To ensure success for all students, our program is supported by weekly tutoring, mentoring, school support counseling and a full range of special education services. In partnership with students, parents and the community, the teachers and staff of Thurmont Middle School are dedicated to fulfilling our motto: "TMS – Where All Students Will Succeed in Learning."
